With its proud and dignified posture, the Chow Chow from China is a striking breed. Its impressive coat, lion-like mane and the typical “blue-black” tongue color make it unique. The Chow Chow has strong self-confidence, is independent and vigilant – not a barker, but always on guard. It is known for being very clean and loyal, but also demanding in terms of care and handling.
The Chow Chow requires consistent training but also emotional closeness. It cannot be “drilled,” but it accepts respectful leadership. It is an enduring runner – not fast, but steady and fond of walks. Its reserved nature towards strangers makes it a good watchdog. Due to its dense coat, it requires regular grooming – especially during shedding season.
