Cairn Terrier

The Cairn Terrier originally comes from the Scottish Isle of Skye and is one of the oldest terrier breeds in Great Britain. It is considered one of the ancestors of the West Highland White Terrier. The breed received its present name in 1910 from the British Kennel Club. “Cairn” means “stone pile” – exactly where this little hunter once chased rats and foxes between rocks and walls.
Despite its small size, the Cairn Terrier is a brave, sturdy, and very self-confident dog. He loves exercise, is extremely alert, yet playful and friendly – especially with children. With his wiry, weatherproof coat, he is an excellent choice for active families who spend a lot of time outdoors.
At home, the Cairn also needs a cosy retreat. Particularly popular with compact dogs like him are the orthopaedic basket beds – softly padded, with a washable reversible cushion, ideal for snuggling. Alternatively, classic dog baskets are also suitable – robust, hygienic, and tailored to small breeds.
As the Cairn Terrier loves to travel, a suitable car seat cover is recommended for trips – whether on the passenger seat, rear bench, or in the boot. The non-slip materials ensure safety, while the soft padding provides comfort and warmth.
Like all Doctor Bark products, these beds, baskets, and blankets are machine washable, dimensionally stable, and built for long-lasting quality – perfect for active small dogs like the Cairn Terrier.
