The Shiba Inu originates from Japan and is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world – first mentions date back to 400 BC. His name literally means “small dog.” Originally bred as an independent hunter, he has preserved his independence to this day. The breed was developed in the Nagano region and was nearly extinct at the beginning of the 20th century. Since 1931, the Shiba has been officially recognized as a “National Natural Monument” of Japan. He is alert, courageous, extremely intelligent – and likes to test whether his human truly has leadership qualities.
