Newfoundland
The Newfoundland originates from the Canadian Atlantic island of the same name. Weighing up to 70 kg with a back length exceeding 75 cm, it is one of the largest and strongest dog breeds worldwide. Females are somewhat lighter but equally impressive in appearance.
The Newfoundland is renowned for its great pulling power, water-repellent coat, and calm temperament. Historically used as a sled dog, fisherman's companion, and water rescuer, it has a strong affinity for swimming and remarkable stamina. Despite its size, it is gentle with children, calm, and extremely people-oriented – making it an ideal family dog for those with enough space.
