Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd has been an officially recognized breed from the USA since 1996 – despite the misleading name, he is not of Australian origin. According to legend, Basque shepherds once brought their dogs from Australia to North America, where the first studbook was established in 1957.
Originally bred for demanding herding work, Australian Shepherds need plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and consistent leadership. They are not suitable for inexperienced owners or a “walk-only” lifestyle – dog sports, agility, and search work are perfect activities.
Thanks to their intelligence and endurance, “Aussies” are often used as hunting or detection dogs by official agencies. With sufficient activity, however, they are also balanced, friendly family dogs – loyal, child-friendly, and very people-oriented.
For a medium-sized dog with up to 58 cm back length, Doctor Bark offers a thoughtful selection of products for daily support: orthopaedic dog beds – ideal for active dogs with hygienic washability for home, durable & washable dog blankets for floors, sofas, or travel, as well as a comfortable dog cushion for flexible use as a sleeping or resting place, providing extra comfort during long recovery breaks.
