Hygienic Dog Beds – Medically Clean, Visibly Fresh
Why washing temperature makes all the difference
Your dog’s bed or sleeping surface collects hair, dander and natural oils (sebum) every day – the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, fungi, mites and parasites. Regular washing isn’t just about freshness; it’s about protecting your dog’s health and creating a truly hygienic home for both of you.
At a Glance:
- 60°C – powerful everyday hygiene against mites, fungi and bacteria.
- 95°C – medical-grade deep cleanliness for maximum safety.
- Washable as a whole – hygienic cleaning right through the filling.
Why washing at 95°C makes all the difference
Most dog beds on the market can only be washed at 30°C or 40°C – temperatures that do little to remove deep-rooted germs, fungi and parasites. Even 60°C may not always be enough: resilient bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or spore-forming fungi like Trichophyton can survive these cycles. Only washing at up to 95°C reliably destroys such pathogens and ensures safe, chemical-free hygiene.
At Doctor Bark, all RedLabel dog beds and cushions are engineered to withstand these high temperatures, achieving the kind of cleanliness that even veterinarians recommend – deep-cleaned, hygienic and long-lasting.
Sebum – the hidden breeding ground for germs and odours
Sebum (the natural oil from your dog’s coat) is one of the main causes of odour and microbial growth. With daily use, it’s pressed deep into the fabric where lipophilic bacteria and fungi find ideal conditions to multiply. Fungal species such as Malassezia thrive particularly well in this fatty environment. Only high washing temperatures (60–95°C) can fully break down these fat-protein compounds – removing the source of germs and odours permanently.
Washable as a whole – hygiene right to the core
Most dog beds are only washable on the surface: the cover can be removed, but the inside remains untouched. However, it’s exactly inside the filling and seams where germs and parasites actually develop and multiply.
Moisture, oils and warmth penetrate deep into the filling, providing the perfect environment for mites, spores and bacteria. When only the cover is washed at 30°C or 40°C, the real source of contamination remains – the bed quickly smells again and stays unhygienic.
Doctor Bark dog beds and cushions are fully washable as a whole – the cover, filling and seams are completely flushed and thermally disinfected. This eliminates bacteria, fungi and parasites even in the deepest layers. The result: medical cleanliness – you can see it, feel it, and smell it.
95°C – Cleanliness with medical confidence
Only at boiling temperatures can germs, fungi and parasites be completely destroyed. In practical terms, this means:
- Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter survive 60°C washing cycles but are fully eliminated at 90–95°C.
- Spore-forming fungi (such as Trichophyton) require near-boiling temperatures to be completely deactivated.
- Biofilms and fatty residues dissolve only at 95°C – germs lose their protective habitat entirely.
With the RedLabel range, Doctor Bark offers dog owners the highest hygiene level available – ideal for allergy-prone dogs, sensitive pets or households with children. A dog bed that doesn’t just look clean – it truly is clean.
