Dachshund
The Dachshund – also known as Dackel or Teckel – is a true character dog. Originally bred for hunting, he impresses with confidence, wit and a touch of stubbornness. His hunting instinct is still very present, which makes clear rules and plenty of exercise important. At the same time, he is loyal and affectionate – building a very close bond with his humans.
Even though he is small, the Dachshund often takes on the role of an attentive watchdog. He tends to be reserved with strangers but very attached to his family. Due to his short legs and elongated body, the Dachshund is prone to back problems – excess weight and frequent stair climbing should therefore be avoided. Unlike most breeds, his size is classified not by shoulder height, but by chest circumference.
